Tile is offered in a multitude of sizes. Smaller tiles help a small room from seeming too constricted. Larger sizes keep big areas from feeling overwhelming. There are many types of tiles.

Floor Tile: Glazed or unglazed, durable enough to withstand foot traffic. Can also be used on walls.

Wall Tile: Produced in colors and patterns more suitable for vertical surfaces. Ideal for area not subjected to as much wear as floors.

Porcelain Tile: The densest of all tile types. Color goes all the way through the tile. Withstands temperature extremes. May be used outdoors. *Note; both porcelain and ceramic tile are great choices. Porcelain tile is a denser product that is more water resistant, which means it can be installed in covered exterior applications with exposure to freeze/thaw cycles. Colorbody porcelain tile has a color though body perfect for residential/commercial interior or exterior applications.

Glazed Tile: Coated with glass-forming minerals and ceramic stains. Available in finishes such as matte and semi-gloss. Stain and moisture-resistant. Ideal for food preparation surfaces such as countertops.

Unglazed Quarry Tile: Hard and dense with a uniform composition. Available with various surface treatments and textures. Often used outdoors.

Matte:Combines muted colors and a smooth satin finish for a look of quiet elegance. Glazed for durability. Matte tiles can be used coordinated with bright wall tile, which has a glossy finish, for a true custom effect.

Texture:Plays a supporting role in a room, yet is critical for creating the overall effect you want. A rough, uneven tile texture enhances a rustic look, while tiles with a smooth texture tend to leave a “crisp and clean” impression. Finishes can enhance the overall look as well. A gloss finish will expand space and brighten a room; while tiles with a matte finish can help you create a warm, cozy atmosphere.

Shapes:Adding uniqueness to a room. Most people “expect” to see square tiles when they enter a room. Sometimes, however, more unusual shapes, or a combination of shapes, will draw attention and create excitement. Also working with unusual shapes allows you to put your own mark on a room.

Satinglo:With its subtle and satiny matte finish, invariably adds a seductive, understated glow to your home. With a durable, glazed surface, Satinglo may be used alone with great success, or mixed with high-gloss Satinbrites for very interesting textural effects.

When it comes to choosing grout color and width, keep in mind that it’s smart to choose a similar color to make grout joints visually disappear or choose a contrasting grout color for each tile to stand out. Wider grout joints feels rustic, while tighter grout joints feel more refined. You should maintain grout joints by being treated with silicone sealer, after the tile has been cleaned and dried (shortly after installation). Grout is porous, and sealing it will simplify future maintenance. Epoxy grouts do not require a sealer. Reapply sealant semi-annually for maximum stain protection.

Routine Tile Care: Wipe glazed wall tiles periodically using a cloth or sponge dampened with a neutral, all-purpose, non oil-based cleaner. Do not use ammonia, it may discolor grout.

Coordinating trim pieces enables you to complete your installation with an upscale and professional finish. Make sure your retailer suggests trim for any installation with exposed edges. Also unglazed ceramic mosaics are complete wall and floor tile combinations, in a slip-resistant format that is ideal for wet areas such as shower and tub surrounds.
